For the next two years I will be living and working in Yaounde, Cameroon. I want to let everyone know of my experience living in this country. As a result, I have decided to create a blog where I can write about my everyday experiences. I will post as often as I can. Come as much as you would like and feel free to leave comments. I hope you enjoy.
My name is Franklin and after reading your postings I just felt compelled to write and say thank you.
I'm cameroonian (currently living in the states) and when nostalgia gets the better of me, I troll the web for all things Cameroon.
It's been very exciting reliving my childhood memories through your postings.
See, I grew up in Yaounde. Trips to Briq (for soya), Cinema Abia, SCORE and Mt Febe were staples for my friends and I. (Is boulangerie Calafatas still there ???)
Speaking of friends - I did recognize one of them in your pictures (from your september postings). I don't know if you keep in touch with him but if you do please have him (Lafor F.A.) e-mail me at ftallah (at)gmail (dot)com as soon as he can. It's been eons since we last spoke and I would love to catch up with him. We used to live next door to each other in Essos and we played as kids all the time.
Meanwhile, having lived in the states for the past 8 years, I believe I have an appreciation for the culture shock you must've or are probably still going through. Like your story about the cop witholding your license until you paid him a bribe - that's embarassing for me but I appreciate the fact you didn't (and don't seem to)let other differences dampen your enthusiasm and curiosity for all the other good things the country has to offer.
Hi jen I'm from spain but i am very interested in africa, i read all your posts and any day i have more desires to visit i invites you to visit my love poems blog on http://catmanenglish.blogspot.com
